National Conference on ‘Advances in Biopolymers -2018’ held at KU Srinagar

Srinagar : A two -day National Conference on ‘Advances in Biopolymers -2018’ started here at University of Kashmir (KU) on Tuesday.
The conference is being organised by the Department of Food Sciences and Technology, KU in collaboration with Association of Food Scientists and Technologists of India – Srinagar Chapter.
According to the organizers of the conference the objective is to bring together the eminent academicians, scientists and researchers to discuss their research papers and share experiences.
Inaugurating the conference Vice Chancellor KU Prof Talat Ahmad in his presidential remarks congratulated the Department for organizing the conference on the pressing theme.
Prof. Talat welcomed the guests from Institute of Chemical Technology, Bombay & from other Universities who were present in the workshop.
“I am pleased to see Scientists, Chemists and technologists from various universities in our campus & I hope people from outside Kashmir will enjoy our hospitality and be our goodwill ambassadors,” said Prof Talat.
The conference was also addressed by Dean Research KU Prof. Zafar Reshi who laid stress on the student participation in such workshops “Our University is doing good in research from last 20 years and I hope our students and scholars will get a better expertise.”
Speaking on the occasion Registrar & DCDC, KU Prof. Neelofar Khan said “I am sure this workshop is going to be beneficial for our students and scholars. The need of the hour is to introduce this subject at school and college level.”
Prof. Nasreen Mazumdar from Jamia Millia Islamia, University New Delhi, Dr. Yasir Ali Arafat from Institute of Scientific Research Kuwait, Prof. D C Saxena Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal Punjab were invited as outside speakers in the conference.
In his remarks, Prof. F A Masudi Head Department Food Science & Technology discussed the new concepts about the theme and also highlighted activities of the department.
A short documentary film ‘Himalaya Mission’ based on a field-trip lead by Dr. Adil Gani Organizing Secretary of the conference was also showcased highlighting some recent field visits to different parts of valley.
Dr. Asima Shah presented the welcome note & introduced theme of the conference to the audience. Prof. Idrees Ahmad Wani presented vote of thanks at the occasion. A souvenir based on the theme of the conference was also released on the occasion.
