Ganderbal : District Youth Services and Sports Ganderbal held a prize distribution ceremony to facilitate the teams who participated in inter-district level sports under ‘Khelo India Peace and Development’ program at Physical College Gadura Ganderbal Wednesday.
Secretary Youth Services and Sports Sarmad Hafeez was the chief guest on the occasion.
The Secretary along with DDC Ganderbal Dr. Piyush Singla distributed prizes among the teams who won games in different sports activities including cricket, football, volleyball, and Tug of War.
Cash prize worth Rs 56,600 were also distributed among the meritorious tea Sports equipment were also given to all participants.
Urging the youth to take sports for overall development, Sarmard Hafeez said there is no dearth of talent in the state, however, it needs to be harnessed in a positive way by providing proper coaching.
Reiterating the government’s commitment in up-gradation of sports infrastructure in the state, he said various initiatives have been taken in this regard and every possible step is being taken to encourage the youth in taking participation in sports activities besides the Centre has sanctioned Rs 14.30 crore under Khelo India program and the funds have been further released for utilization under the same.
The Secretary said Rs 88 crore project under PMDP is in full swing and indoor stadium halls will be constructed in all districts of the state and in Ganderbal district the indoor stadium is being constructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC Ganderbal assured every possible support from the district administration in promoting sports culture among youth in the district.
Meanwhile, to commemorate the National Unity Day being celebrated on October 31, the ADDC Ganderbal, administered the National Unity pledge to participants to foster and reinforce the dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of the nation.
Later, Secretary Sarmad Hafeez inaugurated the Synthetic Turf Badminton Court constructed at the estimated cost of Rs 30 lakh at the Physical College Ganderbal.
Earlier, DDC Ganderbal flagged-off ‘Run for Peace’ rally from Mini Secretariat Ganderbal which culminated at Physical College Gadura Ganderbal.
