Srinagar : Khansahab constituency in central Kashmir’s Budgam district is though the only constituency in entire Jammu and Kashmir state where not even a single candidate filed any nomination paper for upcoming municipal elections but in a surprising development the returning officer appointed for the municipal committees falling in Khansahab assembly constituency has accepted nomination papers from seven candidates after the expiry of last date of filing of nomination papers.
The final list of candidates notified by the returning officer Khansahab after the last date of filing of nominations, a copy of which lies with Kashmir Horizon not even a single candidate had filed any nomination paper for any ward in any municipal committee of Khansahab assembly constituency. However sources said that returning officer has in breach of election procedures entertained nomination papers from seven candidates reportedly owing allegiance to National Conference and PDP.
When contacted Returning Officer appointed for Budgam district Imran Assadullah presently Executive Officer J&K Khadi Village Industries Board (J&K KVIB) when contacted said “though three assistant returning officers were deployed at Municipal Committee Khansahib but seven candidates of Khansahib area filed their nomination papers before Assistant Returning Officer (HQ) Budgam after waiting in the queue in the end but I don’t know the officer appointed as Assistant Returning Officer (HQ) at Budgam.”
It is in place to mention here that even Radio Kashmir Srinagar in its current affairs program Shaherbeen had said that no nomination papers has been received for any municipal ward in Khansahab assembly constituency.
