Srinagar/April,22: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, Saturday convened a meeting to review the Traffic Management Plan (TMP) for Srinagar city ahead of scheduled bi-annual shifting of Durbar Move to capital Srinagar.

IGP Kashmir Zone, Additional Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, ADC Srinagar, SSP Srinagar, Director ERA, SMC Commissioner, RTO Kashmir, VC SDA, SSP Traffic, CE R&B, Chief Town Planner, SE PDD, Deputy Director Tourism, Representative of Transport Commissioner, and other concerned attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed roadside parking, regulation of traffic movement, unauthorized parking slots, and other related issues for smooth traffic management in the city.

It was said 3 lakh plus vehicles from within and outside districts ply on Srinagar roads daily which causes traffic congestion.

On the occasion, the Div Com directed officers of R&B Department to do grading, surfacing and carryout repairs of potholes at various places on Double Shifts within a week for better traffic regulation. He also directed ERA officials to repair all potholes on Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh road stretch.

He further directed officials of ERA to complete the multiplex parking project at old KMD stop in Lal Chowk within fifteen days.

Khan directed PDD officials to shift all utilities occupying road space at Tengpora Bridge and chop down trees so that the road becomes wide enough for smooth plying of the traffic.

He also asked the SMC officials to install sign boards at different places regarding the time table of all passenger buses for the convenience of the general public.

During the meeting, the Div Com was informed that the Tourism Department has installed 100 LED lights on M.A. road and another 100 lights will be installed soon in the civil lines area of the city.

The meeting was told that the Government has hired services of a Traffic Advisor who will study the traffic congestion issues at busy roads, particularly at Jehangir Chowk, Regal Chowk, Batamaloo, Qamarwari and Ram Bagh stretches and will formulate a comprehensive proposal for the decongestion of traffic at these places. He will also provide feedback to decongest the traffic in the city, the meeting was informed.
