Leh: Muslim community in Leh District of Jammu Kashmir’s Ladakh Division Saturday observed a complete shutdown against the district administration for not observing a holiday in the district on the day of Ashoora.
The call for shutdown was forwarded by Shia-Sunni Coordination Committee comprising Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam and Anjuman Imamia Youth Wing.
Ashoora was observed in Kargil and Leh on September 20, however, district administration Leh didn’t declare any holiday for employees while Kargil district administration observed holiday on that day. The Shia-Sunni Coordination Committee Leh, while castigating district administration Leh, had asked Muslim community to observe complete shutdown on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses said all the shops and business establishments as well as private educational institutions belonging to Muslim community remained shut.
An official from district administration Leh said that barring Kargil and Leh, Ashoora was observed across Jammu and Kashmir on September 21 and a state holiday was declared on that day.
