New Delhi : The Union Ministry of Rural Development has awarded the UMEED project of Jammu Kashmir State Rural Livelihood Mission for making pioneering efforts for institution building and capacity building in the state to provide livelihoods to the under privileged class and improve their socio-economic status in the society.

Mission Director JKSRLM Abdul Rashid War received the award from Union Minister for Rural Development, Narender Singh Tomar in award ceremony organized Wednesday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Dehli. The award was to acknowledge the performance of the State Missions of various states in different themes. The J&K SRLM was given award for its performance in ‘Institution Building and Capacity building’.

While as UMEED project was started in Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2013, the basic aim of this project is to empower women of Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of India. UMEED has made pioneering efforts in promoting and mobilizing about 270632 women into 29703 Self Help Groups and strengthening these groups by way of providing revolving capital from the J&KSRLM and linking various financial institutions for higher loans encouraging them for extending their livelihoods. So far the department has provided RS 119.87 crores as capital assistance. The SHGs have been further credit linkaged with various banks and provided loans worth Rs. 175 crores.

Meanwhile Secretary, Rural Development Department and Panchayati Raj, Sheetal Nanda appreciated the working of Umeed JKSRLM and extended her warm wishes to the team and hoped that such enthusiasm, will and pace of working shall continue in future as well

Pertinent to mention here is that the JKSRLM has been able to achieve the set targets from the onset of the program, especially in Social Mobilization and Community Institutions.

Speaking on the occasion Mission Director JKSRLM Abdul Rashid War said “it is really a proud moment for us and I am very thankful to whole J&K SRLM (Umeed) family, and everybody associated with this project.”
