Unidentified gunman shot dead Tehreek-e-Hurriyat activist in Sopore

Sopore: Unidentified gunmen on Saturday shot dead a Tehreek-e-Hurriyat activist in Bomai area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Reports said that unidentified gunmen fired upon Hakim-ul-Rehman Sultani, son of Moulvi Nizamudin outside his home in Reshipora Bomai, while he was driving his personal car.
SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal told Kashmir Horizon that militants fired upon a civilian in Bomai area Sopore injuring him critically. “Militants shot at a civilian in Bomai area in Sopore. He received critical head injuries and succumbed on the way to hospital,” SSP Sopore said.
In a statement Sopore police said that militants on Saturday afternoon fired on a civilian in Bomai area of Sopore. “The civilian has been identified as Hakim-ur-Rehman son of Nizamudin resident of Reshipora Bomai. In this incident Hakim received critical bullet injuries and was evacuated to the nearby hospital for medical attention where he succumbed to his injuries. A case in this regard has been registered and investigation in the instant matter has been initiated,” police said.
Locals said that Sultani was a Tehreek-e-Hurriyat activist and was serving detention in Kupwara jail. He was released two weeks back on Eid-ul-Azha. Sopore police said that Hakim was arrested on stone pelting charges Survived by 5 daughters, wife and old aged mother, locals remember Hakim as a pious, soft spoken and helpful person who would always care for the people. Thousands of mourners on Saturday evening participated in slain Hakim’s funeral prayers. Reports said that thousands of people gathered at Bomai and participated in funeral prayers in slain civilian amid pro freedom and anti India slogans. Amid sobs and tears slain civilian was buried at a local graveyard.
