Srinagar: Newly-appointed Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik was on Thursday presented guard of honour by the police when he visited Civil Secretariat, seat of the government, for the first time after assuming office in the summer capital, Srinagar.
This was Mr Malik’s first visit to the Civil Secretariat, where the Governor visited various offices and interacted with the employees on Thursday, when a general strike was being observed on a call given by separatists against alleged attempts being made to abrogate Article 35-A.
Mr Malik, who was previously Governor of Bihar, was appointed as the 13th Governor of J&K last week after his predecessor N N Vohra’s term ended.
Governor’s rule was imposed in the state after BJP pulled out support from the coalition government, forcing PDP president Mehbooba Mufti to resign from the post of chief minister in June this year.
