New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday said, we would hear the case likely at 3.45pm on Wednesday on the mentioning of senior lawyers appearing for the arrested accused and social activists, Sudha Bhardwaj, Gautam Navlakha and others.
Eminent persons today moved the SC through their lawyers against their arrest. The police claimed that the accused persons have alleged links with Maoists.
The matter was mentioned before the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra’s Court, by Senior lawyers Prashant Bushan, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Dushyant Dave and indira Jaising.
The petitioners who had moved the apex court against the arrest are, top historian Romila Thapar, Prabhat Patnaik, Satish Deshpande, Maya Darnall and one other.
The SC after going through the mentioning of senior apex court lawyers, said, we will hear it today at 3.45pm.
The petitioners moved the Supreme Court and sought an independent probe into the alleged arrests of the social activists.
The petitioners claimed, the arrests made by the Maharashtra Police of these human right activists and lawyers allegedly for their alleged links with Maoists, were arbitrary and illegal.
