Unwanted hype to Mehbooba’s funeral trip to Delhi

Mehbooba’s challenges in election time

True it is the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti is facing a huge challenge to her acceptability within her own party for the first time after the demise of party’s founder late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed but unwanted hype given to Mehbooba Mufti’s trip to Delhi along with a delegation of her party legislators for attending the last rites of former Prime Minister Attal Bihari Vajpayee shows the political wisdom of those who wanted to portray it as a show of strength by Mehbooba and her party loyalists. While those who tried to portray arrival of Mehbooba Mufti along with a team of party legislators in Delhi as an attempt to show the support she commands as leader of her party legislators did not show political maturity but this is also a fact that Mehbooba Mufti did not show political maturity by leading a team of her loyal party legislators to Delhi for attending the last rites of Vajpayee. No doubt Vajpayee had during his five year term as Chief Minister worked extra miles to open all possible channels of dialogue with both the Government of Pakistan and as well as the separatist leadership in Jammu & Kashmir but it is also a fact that hawks who always settle scores in BJP outwitted Vajpayee at the end of the Agra summit and spoiled his year of good work in just few hours.

Political wisdom demanded that Mehbooba should not have choosen to lead a team of her loyal party MLAs to Delhi for attending the last rites of former Prime Minister Attal Bihari Vajpayee and critics of Mehbooba should not have also hyped Mehbooba’s trip to Delhi along with a team of her party MLAs. At least politics is not to be played over funerals of the leaders of yesteryears.

Mehbooba Mufti may find good number of takers for tributing late Vajpayee for his efforts over peace and reconciliation in Jammu & Kashmir and dialogue with Pakistan but she won’t find any takers here in Jammu & Kashmir for her decision to lead a team of her loyal party MLAs to Delhi for attending Vajpayee’s last rite as a mark of tribute to the late leaders. Interestingly even the chief ministers’ of the BJP ruled states did not bring along with them all of their ministers to Delhi for attending the last rites of one of the tallest BJP leaders Attal Bihari Vajpayee.
