Samoon reviews formulation of strategy for transformative mobility

Srinagar: Principal Secretary, Transport and Animal & Sheep Husbandry Departments, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon Tuesday chaired a meeting of senior officers regarding the formulation of strategy for the transformative mobility in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by Transport Commissioner Saugat Biswas, Regional Director Pollution Control Board Kashmir Dr. Syed Nadeem Hussain, SP Traffic City Srinagar Tahir Gilani, SP Traffic Rural Kashmir Muzzafar Ahmad Shah, Traffic Advisor Anju Malhotra, Chief Proctor Kashmir University Prof. Naseem Iqbal, Joint Commissioner Works SMC Parvaiz Ahmed, ARTO Srinagar and other concerned officials from various departments. Transport officials from Jammu, Leh and Kargil attended the meeting through video conferencing.
On the occasion, various issues were discussed threadbare for ensuring better transport mobility in the State.
The meeting discussed the ban on roadside parking and steps to prevent business establishments coming up in the residential areas.
Samoon called on exploring the possibility of water transport system in the state to ease traffic congestion on roads. He said concrete steps would be taken towards establishing a green transport system in the State.
While expressing concern about deaths and injuries caused due to traffic accidents, Samoon directed for strict punishment to violators who do not adhere to the speed limits and follow other rules and regulations. He also said the implementation of ban on 15-year-old vehicles will be started in a phased manner.
While calling for the institutional strengthening for better enforcement as well as for better public services, Samoon directed the officials to put well-planned Emergency and Disaster Management system in place.
During the meeting, various other issues including immediate shifting of all establishments not required in cities and towns, parking zones outside cities and towns, making use of ITMS solutions with user-friendly apps for better traffic management and seamless mobility and other issues were also discussed.
The meeting also discussed the need for the awareness among the masses for the better mobility.
