Srinagar: Four people, including a woman, on Sunday died and another person in critical due to asphyxiation in a sewage trench in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
Official sources said a man, identified as Mohammad Maqbool Khan, was repairing and cleaning a sewage trench at his residence in Uttersoo, Shangus in Anantnag.
They said suddenly Khan fell unconscious due to asphyxiation, adding his wife, a son and two neighbours also went into the trench to rescue him. However, they also fell unconscious after inhaling some poisonous gas.
All the five persons were immediately taken to a local hospital, where four of them died. “The deceased have been identified as Shamima, Umar Gul, Sabzar Ahmad and Zahid Ahmad,” they added.
Meanwhile, health condition of Khan is critical.
