DDC Ang reviews progress of Agriculture sector

Anantnag: District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik Tuesday convened a meeting of the officers of Agriculture Sector, Anantnag to review the progress under various schemes.

The Chief Agriculture Officer, Anantnag informed the meeting that under cultivation of Paddy, 24036 hectares of land have been covered and the production yielding capacity per hectare has been recorded as 65 Qtls.

Likewise, 10676 hectares of land have been brought under maize cultivation, and yielding capacity per hectare has been recorded as 32 Qtls. A record production of 2700 Qtls. of Mushkibudji has been recorded in 08 seed villages of Kokernag including Sagam village.

It was also given out that paddy production has increased over the last few years due to introduction of high yielding seed varieties. 551 paddy villages have been established while as 1454.60 Qtls. of high yielding seed varieties have been distributed among farmers at subsidised rates. Also soil health cards, technical support and post harvesting storage is being provided to the farmers. Similarly, 327 Qtls. hybrid maize seed has been distributed. In addition, 70 vermicompost units are functional in different parts of the district.

The meeting was also informed that free fertilizers have been provided to the farmers for cultivation of Mushkibudji.

District Development Commissioner stressed upon the need to popularize the cultivation of Mushkibudji so that more and more farmers start Mushkibudji cultivation. He added that district Anantnag has a great potential in terms of Agriculture and allied sectors. He also said government will provide all possible facilities to the farmer community for cultivation of different varieties of crops including vegetables cultivation.

The District Development Commissioner assured for technical support including a Milling Machine, packing and marketing facilities for Mushkibudji cultivation. He instructed the concerned to identify one village in every Agriculture Sub division for establishing verimicompost unit. He also stressed upon involving Self Help Groups for the promotion of Mushkibudji cultivation.
