No Amarnath yatra convoy on Srinagar-Jammu highway for security reasons

Srinagar: Movement of all vehicles carrying Amarnath pilgrims on the national highway, the only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, remained suspended for the second day on Monday for security reasons following two-day strike called by separatists against ploys to abrogate Article 35-A.
The Supreme Court (SC) will hear on  today (Monday) a number of writ petitions challenging Article 35 A, which empowers the Jammu and Kashmir state’s legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state. The Article provides special rights and privileges to the permanent residents of the state.
No fresh pilgrim was allowed to move towards Kashmir from Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, camp this morning following instructions by the authorities, official sources told UNI.
Similarly, pilgrims, who were scheduled to travel from Baltal base camp in central Kashmir to Jammu have also been stopped at Manigam camp for the past two days.
No pilgrim was also allowed to leave Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for Jammu since yesterday morning for security reasons, they added.
However, sources said the pilgrims are being provided all the facilities at these camps and will be allowed to leave for Jammu as and when a green signal is received.
