Director ISM visits Ladakh region

Leh: A Farmers Meet cum Seminar was organized at Leh by J&K State Medicinal Plants Board wherein number of farmers participated.

The seminar was inaugurated by Director ISM Niraj Kumar. 75 Farmers were registered for cultivation of High altitude high demand medicinal plants. The farmers were provided awareness about the benefits of locally growing Medicinal plants, cultivation practices and economics.      Director ISM assured the farmers for every possible help in improving the economy through cultivation of Medicinal Plants. A comprehensive action plan will be submitted to State as well as Central Govt accordingly, it was revealed.

Director ISM had a detailed meeting with CMO Leh and Amchi practitioners regarding transfer of assets and liabilities of Amchi system to ISM department. The issues thereof were discussed and accordingly a proposal for promotion of Amchi system in Ladakh region will be submitted to Government. Director ISM assured the Amchi practitioners that the department will not leave any stone unturned for recognition of their degrees and the matter of enhancing their stipend will be taken up with the concerned departments.

Director ISM desired that two ISM dispensaries sanctioned for the region may be identified immediately so that these institutions will be made functional at the earliest. Moreover, both the CMO’s were asked to establish Ayush units in the Distt Hospitals where in doctors will be posted after rationalisation. The demand for creation of Distt officer posts was raised by both districts for which the Director said the proposal will be submitted to Govt. Both the CMO’s were requested to submit all the details/proposal regarding Amchi (staff assets liabilitiesetc) and accordingly committee will be constituted for further necessary action with regard to taking over of Administrative control of Amchi

Director ISM inspected the Regional Research centre of Sova Rigpa and deliberated with Padma Gurmeet Director of the Institute for effective research methodology in Amchi syste

Director ISM also had a detailed meeting with Deputy Commissioner Kargil for promotion of High Altitude Medicinal Plants in Kargil region. CMO Kargil, CHO Kargil, DFO Kargil, Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil were present in the meeting. The officers were informed about the schemes of Ministry of AYUSH for promotion of Medicinal Plants sector. Deputy Commissioner Kargil gave on the spot directions for identification of 250 kanals of land for establishment of Medicinal Plants conservation Development areas under In situ conservation. CHO Kargil assured that they will register Farmers and will develop at least 2 Nurseries of Medicinal Plants in the area. SMPB assured for arranging planting material and providing technical assistance for the same.

DC Kargil directed CMO for identification of places for establishing two ISM dispensaries in the area. Director ISM assured every help from the department for this noble cause. Dr Rakesh Kumar Raina Assistant Director ISM, Dr Wahid ul Hassan IC officer J&K SMPB, PA to Director ISM accompanied the Director ISM.
