Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police Tuesday beefed up security here in Srinagar city following the attack on CRPF party in which one Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) man was killed.
Police sources told KNS that that security has been tightened across the city in view of the attack carried out by the militants in the heart of the city.
A paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) man was killed after suspected militants attacked a force party near Fire and Emergency Services department in Batamaloo area of Kashmir capital Srinagar today afternoon.
Witnesses said that Police and CRPF men were seen carrying out frisking of vehicles, particularly LMVs. They were also checking the documents of motor bikes.
The vehicles entering into Srinagar through different entry points were also being thoroughly checked.
Additional deployment of forces and police was made at several places. “We have laid the Nakas across the city. We are monitoring the situation,” a senior police officer said. However, no one was reported to be arrested during the searches.
Police sources said that security apparatus around the civil secretariat was also beefed up after the attack in the city.
One of the top police officials of police told KNS that police and other security forces are maintaining ‘extra vigil’. “We are taking precaution. The security has been geared up so that such incidents do not take place,” the official said wished not to be named.
Meanwhile sources said that in view of the attack, the Director General of Police, Dr S. P Vaid has asked all the security forces to remain vigilant while performing their duties. “The cops need to remain vigilant in future to thwart the designs of subversive elements as they would attempt to create disturbances in the State. We have to remain abreast with the changing scenario and adopt new methods of policing to counter the challenges,” according to sources, the DGP has told the Security forces.
Sources said that the authorities in security agencies of JK have been asked to deploy additional forces in key areas and remain extra-vigilant in the state especially in Srinagar city.
Sources told KNS that the police forces have also been asked to wear bulletproof jackets when on duty. (KNS)
