Srinagar: Militants attacked two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camps with hand grenades at separate places in Tral area of Pulwama district, where restrictions were lifted after two days.
Official sources said militants lobbed a grenade towards the CRPF camp in Batagund in Tral on Monday evening. However, no one was injured in the explosion. “The militants managed to escape from the spot during the chaos created due to the explosion,” they said, adding a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers.
This is the second grenade attack since this morning in Tral. Earlier in the day, militants hurled a hand grenade towards a vehicle when it was leaving the camp of 180 Batallion CRPF at main Tral town, about 35 km from here. However, the grenade missed the target and exploded at a distance without causing any damage. No one was injured.
Security forces have launched a search operation against the militants responsible the attack, they said.
Panic gripped in the area after the blast, sound of which was heard in the entire town, where authorities had imposed curfew restrictions on Friday evening to prevent any demonstration on the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani who was killed in an encounter on July 8, 2016 in Anantnag. Restrictions were lifted this morning. Separatists had called for strike and asked people to assemble at Tral.
