Srinagar: Eid-ul-Fitr, the Muslim holy festival turned into a mourning for the media fraternity of Kashmir after the killing of a senior journalist and Rising Kashmir editor-in-Chief, Shujaat Bukhari.
The festive look that wore in the commercial Hub Lal Chowk and Srinagar’s press enclave as well is missing from the media hub here as every journalist irrespective of his organization is in utter shock following the dastardly act on Thursday evening.
“The pain over RK editor’s killing can be witnessed on the face of every single journalist. Everybody is in utter shock. We still can’t believe that an asset of Kashmir is no more with us,” a journalist working with local daily said.
Notably, veteran journalist and Rising Kashmir Editor-In-Chief Dr Shujaat Bukhari was Thursday evening shot dead by unidentified gunmen outside his office in the heart of Srinagar the summer capital.
The killing of a senior journalist was widely condemned.
Union Ministers, Chief Minister, opposition and other leaders condemned the killing of Shujaat Bukhari.
Besides, the netizens and Twitterities have also condemned the killing of Shujaat Bukhari, terming it ‘a big loss to Kashmir’.
“Pen will not stop But the true voice stopped today. From #Gaurilankesh to #SujaatBukhari criminals are still on run. #AllahMagrifatkaraa,” writes a lawyer, Naseem Qadri on his Facebook.
“Who are these unidentified gunmen? When militants have open ended outfits and agenda? Aren’t these state sponsored terrorists. They are never identified. We lost Molvi Farooq saub, Abdul Gani Lone saub and now Dr. Shujaat Bhukhari saub in the same pattern. Who are these unidentified gunmen? Why state intelligence cant trace them?,” Hamid Mir, a writer and journalist said in his Facebook post.
“Voice of the voiceless people of our mother land Syed Shujaat Bukhari is no more.May Almighty Allah grant him highest place in Jannat ul Firdous,” Dr Muhammad Jamaal wrote on his Facebook.
Moreover, most of the netizens have put Shujaat Bukhari’s photograph as their profile picture to express solidarity with the slain journalist. (KNS)
