Srinagar: A youth from old Srinagar city Saturday alleged that police have been trying to frame him in DySP lynching case.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested over a dozen persons in connection with the mob lynching of DySP Muhammad Ayub Pandith in Srinagar last year.
Pandith was lynched outside Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of the city on 22 June, 2017. One of the accused Sajad Ahmed Gilkar according to police was killed in a gunfight with armed forces in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Pirzada Muhammad Wasim, a young man from Nawakadal area of Srinagar city said that despite not being present at the time of lynching incident in Nowhatta, police station Nowhatta has included his name in the list of accused. “I don’t visit my home and am in hiding. I have no problem with Police Station Safakadal, but am being harassed by Police Station Nowhatta,” said Wasim.
He claimed that police know it well he was at Hazratbal at the time of lynching incident and yet they are eager to implicate me in the false case. “Police is after me just because a number of stone-pelting cases stand registered against me,” he said.
Pirazada Muhammad Wasim claimed that police department has halted the promotion of his father who is also a cop. “Police produced a number of witnesses against me in lynching case, but thankfully they deposed in my favor. I am innocent and want police to stop harassing me,” he said.
Pertinently, as per police challan filed by Nowhatta police in the court of law, the accused have been booked in FIR 51 of 2017 for the offences 302 RPC (murder), 392 RPC (robbery), 341 RPC (wrongful restraint), 149 RPC (member of unlawful assembly), 148 RPC (rioting) RPC and section 13 unlawful activities act. One of the accused Musavir Ahmed has a bullet injury who sustained it when the deceased police officer fired upon a group of youth while they tried to overpower him.
