Srinagar: A 16-year-old student drowned when he saved a small child from drowning in river Jehlum in Srinagar, official sources said here on Saturday.
They said a small boy fell into river Jehlum at Armwari Zero Bridge. However, Shakir Wani, a PUC student, who was present in the area immediately jumped into the river and saved the boy.
Shakir however, could not come out from the river and drowned, they said adding the body has been recovered.
The locals condoled the death of Shakir who sacrificed his life while saving the boy.
