Farmers’ training organised at Kishanpur

Kathua: Farmers Training Centre, Krishi Bhawan, Thursday organized one day Farmers Training Program here at village Kishanpur Kandi falling under Zone-Chann Arorian of Kathua District.

Around 50 farmers of the area participated in the training camp organized on the instructions of Director Agriculture H. K. Razdan and Deputy Director of Agriculture (Trainings) Sunil Koul.

Agriculture Information Officer Jammu J. C. Raina advised the farmers to increase their income through reduction of cost of cultivation by utilizing latest crop cultivation techniques, use of balanced dose of fertilizers, vermiculture making, growing the off seasonal vegetables and usage of efficient agricultural machinery. He asked the farmers to insure their crops against vagaries of weather under newly launched Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFSBY). He further highlighted the importance of growing of the crops like turmeric, garlic, Kulth, Til, Mash, Moong and many other local specialties to fetch good returns.

Vinod Kapoor, Subject Matter Specialist, Sub-Division, Dayalachak spoke on the importance safe use of pesticides, Integrated Pest Management and on Integrated Nutrient Management. He said the farmers can raise their income through value addition of their products, diversification of agriculture through apiculture, organic vegetable cultivation, mushroom cultivation and flower cultivation.

Agriculture Extension Officer, Zone Chann Arorian Ravi Sharma on the occasion asked the farmers to avail the benefits of various ongoing farmers’ welfare schemes including Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), Soil Health Cards Scheme (SCHS), Sub-Mission on Machinery (SMAM) and Seed Production of Paddy and Wheat.  Sharma also spoke on vermi-composting and compost making. Narayan Sharma, Agriculture Extension Assistant spoke of good agricultural practices for the cultivation of maize and other kharif crops.

Others who attended the program included Parshotam Lal, AEA, Kulbhushan Kumar, AEA, Raj Kumar, AEA, Jatinder Singh, AEA, Surinder Kumar, AEA, Sunil Singh Andotra, AEA, Gian Chand, AEA, Ashwani Sharma, AEA and the prominent progressive farmers of the area including Darbari Lal,  Pushkar Nath, Gopal Sharma, Om Prakash, Uttam Chand and Parma Nand. Small Hand Tools and literature on various schemes and programs for the awareness of the farmers was also distributed on the occasion.
