Ramban : Erring traders charged Rs 45700 fine

Ramban: A special market checking squad comprising officers of various departments Thursday conducted massive market inspection across this highway district to keep check on overcharging and quality of food in the ongoing holy month of Ramzan.

The officers from  Food Civil Supply and Consumers Affairs   (FCS&CA), Municipal Committee,  Police,  Legal Metrology, Divisional Pollution Control Board, Forest Protection Force Department conducted the market checking in Ramban, Batote, Banihal, Gool, Ramsu, Digdol, Marog, Seri and Maitra to ensure that people get quality edibles and essential commodities at reasonable rates especially during the  days of Ramzan.

During inspection teams charged a total fine of Rs. 45,700 from 136 erring shopkeepers or business owners of the district Thursday.

At Batote,  a team led by Tehsildar, charged  Rs.16,600 fine from 56 owners of shops and business establishments and destroyed 2 ql rotten vegetables and fruits.

In Ramban and its surrounding areas of Maitra, Digdol, Seri and Marog, inspection team checked  147 shops and business establishments  and charged a  fine of Rs 22,900 was from 51  shopkeepers for various types of violations.

Similarly, around  42 shops were inspected in Banihal town and 5 were challaned with Rs.2200 fine. In Ramsu  30 shops were inspected,11 were challaned and Rs.1400 was charged  as fine from the erring shopkeepers.

In Gool, the team compounded  13 shopkeepers and collected  Rs.2600  as fine. All the owners of dhabas, hotels and shopkeepers were directed to maintain hygiene and quality of eatables and also ensure display of Price list besides not use polythene carry bags and domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purpose and failing which strict action shall be taken against them.
