Srinagar: A seminar organised by the Hurriyat Conference (M) titled “Responsibility of Leadership in Safeguarding the Sanctity of Martyrdom” was held at the amalgam’s Rajbagh headquarters here in connection with the ongoing martyr’s week. Rich tributes were paid to Shaheed-e-Milat Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Farooq, Shaheed-e-Hurriyat Khwaja Abdul Gani Lone and martyrs of Hawal massacre of May 21, 1990.
In his presidential address, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that Kashmir is not an issue of economic doles or privileges but a political and humanitarian issue and it is our consistent stand that this issue can be resolved either by implementation of UN Resolutions on Kashmir or through a sustained result oriented meaningful dialogue among India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir and that military might can’t muzzle the genuine aspirations of people of Kashmir.
Without directly referring to Ramadan Ceasefire Mirwaiz said that no temporary initiative can prove fruitful unless steps are taken to address the basic dispute of Kashmir. He asked what next after this month? Will Government of India start killing people of Kashmir again?
Mirwaiz said that the people of Kashmir are engaged in a struggle based on the internationally accepted principal of Right to Self Determination and in order to crush this genuine struggle of the people the repressive measures used by the government of India are faced and fought with complete determination and unity by the people of Kashmir which he said, will bear fruit.
Paying glowing tributes to the Shaheed-e-Milat and Shaheed-e-Hurriyat and the martyrs of Hawal massacre besides all the martyrs of Kashmir, Mirwaiz said that the martyrs have put the duty on us which demands that we show our complete commitment towards the movement with unison of thought and action. Mirwaiz said the it is a fact people of Kashmir have Rejected FEAR and have become resilient and Govts tactics of bullet and pellet, arresting people and leadership confining them in jails or houses, torture ,use of NIA, repeated restrictions and curfews and harassment and intimidation and other measures of pushing the youth to the wall have proved a complete failure. In fact all these have boomeranged upon the perpetrators.Mirwaiz said that besides resistance leadership every segment of society including lawyers, traders, students, businessmen, employees, and teachers have to share the responsibility to take the movement forward.
In his address, JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik said that Shaheed-e-Milat and Shaheed-e-Hurriyat had made unity as their way of life whenever they faced serious threats and onslaughts from New Delhi. He said the present dispensation at New Delhi has decided to kill and thrash Kashmiris. He said operation all out started by the GoI through its forces in Kashmir was not only against militants but against the political pro-freedom leadership too. He said in such circumstances, where Delhi’s intentions are clear, the only option left with the Kashmiri people is to resist this onslaught with unity.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat said the Kashmiri nation is a wise nation and people like him are not the watchmen of darkness but light. He stressed on forging unity on all fronts till the final goal is achieved. Senior APHC leaders also paid tributes to Shaheed-e-Milat and Shaheed-e-Hurriyat stating that he always keeps on telling people to keep the sanctity of the Hurriyat as a complete form that represents true aspirations of people, intact.
In his address the senior Hurriyat leader Bilal Gani Lone said that when we talk of collective leadership then individual approaches and agendas are to be made subservient to the collective cause. While paying rich tributes to Shaheed-e-Milat and Shaheed-e-Hurriyat he said that Hurriyat is carrying forward their mission and the legacy.
