Srinagar: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti thanked UN Women, United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, for acknowledging the decision of J&K Government to abolish stamp duty on the sale of property registered in the name of females.
“Thank you @unwomenindia. I truly hope this small step towards encouraging families to give women their due resonates all over the country & sets a strong precedent,” Ms Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Ms Mehbooba was responding to a tweet by the official twitter handle UN Women, which read, “@unwomenindia acknowledges the positive measure taken by the J&K Government to abolish stamp duty on the sale of #property registered in the name of #females. Huge step towards #women’s #empowerment!”
