Srinagar: One policeman was on Friday afternoon killed in an attack by suspected militants and a youth injured in clashes after the attack. Police in its statement has claimed that weapon snatching attempt was thwarted in the attack.
Reports said unidentified gunmen attacked a police post at Wadwan Budgam guarding the migrant residential settlements and the killed a policeman. The slain cop was identified as Shameem Ahmed of Yaripora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam District. After the attack clashes broke out in the area and youth was shot by bullet in the thigh. The injured youth has been identified as the Adil Ahmad Mir S/O Farooq Ahmad Mir R/O Galwanpora Budgam. The condition of the injured youth is stated to stable
Meanwhile police claimed to have thwarted a weapon snatching attempt in Wadwan attack .In a statement issued here on Friday afternoon police said that militants Friday attempted to force their entry inside a Guard post at Budgam. Militants appeared outside the Guard Post in Wardwan Budgam and held-up SgCt Shamim Ahmad outside his Guard Post who was unarmed and was going to offer Friday prayers at a local mosque in the vicinity. Shamim was asked to lead toward the Guard Post however he raised an alarm and the alert jawans inside the Guard Post successfully foiled it.
In the process the said official, according to the statement, was injured who consequently succumbed to his injury. Martyred jawan Sgct Shamim Ahmad No 834 Bd (EXK 981992) is a resident of Check Hanjan Yaripora Police has registered a case in this connection.
