Shopian/ May , 6: The gunfight that erupted in Shopian district’s Badigam village Sunday morning has ended and five militants are reported killed in the gunfight.
Director General Police DrS Station Vaid took to micro blogging social networking website twitter and said “Encounter concluded at Badigam Zainapora Shopian,five bodies of militants have been recovered.The identity of the slain militants was not immediately known’.
The gunfight broke out at Badigam village after army’s 44 RR launched the cordon-and-search operation in the area.
Army’s 23 Para Commandos, 34 RR, 3 RR, CRPF, and SOG were rushed as reinforcements after the contact with militants was established.
In the initial firefight one SOG man, Anil Kumar and an army soldier of 44 RR were injured.
Soon intense clashes rocked the area in which several protesters were injured, one of them critically. He was referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
