Srinagar: Hours after the union cabinet passed an ordinance for death penalty to rape accused convicts, the Jammu and Kashmir government prepared a memo for passing a similar ordinance to allow courts to award death penalty to rape accused convicts.
When contacted Law Minister Abdul Haq Khan confirmed to Kashmir News Service that a memo has been kept ready for an ordinance which will be placed before the state cabinet to allow courts to award death penalty to rape accused convicts. He said “the memo to be placed before the cabinet is likely to be passed and sent to Governor for his approval. The central government has already passed a similar ordinance to allow courts to award death penalty to rape accused convicts.
It is in place to mention here that just two Law Minister Abdul Haq Khan had said that the law department is examining the probability of making a law for allowing courts to award death penalty to rape accused convicts. Early Saturday morning the education minister Altaf Bukhari had also promised students an appropriate law for harshest punishment to rape accused convicts and quickest trial of the Kathua rape accused.
As already reported the State cabinet is scheduled to meet on April 24, i.e Tuesday to take stock of the law and order situation in Kashmir and Jammu in the aftermath of the filing of charge sheet of Kathua minor rape case. Interestingly the students protests since the filing of the charge sheet in Kathua minor rape accused case has collapsed the class work in schools, colleges and universities over the demand for speedy trial of the Kathua rape accused and harshest punishment to the convicts. Acting swiftly the union cabinet passed a resolution to allow courts to award death penalty to rape accused convicts and hours after the union cabinet decision the state government also has prepared a memo for perusal of the cabinet to allow courts to award death penalty to rape accused convicts.
