Jammu: Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta Friday distributed LPG connections to BPL, SC, and ST families on the eve of Ujjwala Diwas celebration in Gandhi Nagar constituency and adjoining areas here Friday.

Speaking to the gathering, Speaker said the state government is fully implementing centre’s Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) initiative with an aim to make every household smokeless.

“The government has launched the scheme across the state in which thousands of families have been given free LPG connections and by 2022 the same will continue to reach out its target,” he said.

During the celebration, the Speaker distributed numerous LPG connections under the scheme in several areas including Bhour west, Qasim Nagar, Belicharana and Madal Phallian.

On the occasion, the Speaker said it is endeavor of state and centre government to uplift the downtrodden section of society through several dedicated schemes and this Ujjwala measure will empower the women folk and protect their health by easing out their burden of conventional cooking on wood.

“This will reduce the time spent on cooking and can generate employment in rural areas in the supply of cooking gas,” Speaker said.

To avoid environmental, climatic and health hazards, Speaker directed officers to start capacity building among common masses to prepare them to shun the archaic practice of cooking on wood fuel and other smoke emission fuels and adopt the efficient, safe cooking fuel.

“The scheme will be extended to every household who are identified under Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) and so far seven thousand gas connections have been distributed in the Gandhi Nagar constituency,” He added.

He also directed the concerned officers to frame-out the list of beneficiaries at earliest for full implementation of the scheme in the state.

While appealing people to take a positive role in the development process of their area, the speaker said it is an onus on government officials to make masses aware of various government schemes and work in a coordinated manner with them so that all the dedicated schemes would reach to people. Besides asked people to take maximum benefits from central and state-sponsored schemes.

Specialist present on the occasion highlighted the importance and benefits of using clean energy for cooking and briefed the beneficiaries about the safety precautions of LPG Stoves.

On the occasion, several beneficiaries also shared their experiences how this initiative has brought revolution their lives besides easing out their household chores and raised their socio-economic standard of living while it has improved health and better education opportunities among them.

Several deputations also met the speaker and apprised him of their issues being faced by them. He assured that all the genuine demands will be redressed within a stipulated timeframe and asked them, concerned officers, to start repairment work on internal link road of Belicharana.

Earlier, the Speaker also visited the Sanjay Nagar area to take stock of various developmental works being executed there, officers present on the spot apprised him that work is in pace and soon will be dedicated to the public.

The speaker directed the officers to work in synergy to complete all the projects within a time-bound manner to avoid inconvenience to general masses. He further exhorted officers to complete work on Sanjay Chowk to Digiana road and asked them to complete the same by July 2018.
