Srinagar/April,20: Bhaderwah and Kishtwar area of Chenab valley are observing shutdown to press the rising demand for speedy trial in Kathua rape-and-murder case.
The shutdown called by Majlis-e-Shoura Kishtwar and Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhadarwah to show solidarity with the family of eight-year-old gang rape-and-murder victim has hit the normal life in most parts of the Chenab valley.The heads of both the organizations have warned both the Union and the state governments against succumbing to the pressure of communal forces.
Shops and businesses establishments owned by Muslims in Bhadarwah and Kishtwar remained closed while schools, government offices and banks functioned normally. Public and private transport was also not affected by the shutdown call.
“We have given a peaceful shutdown call to support of setting up of a fast track court and speedy trial of Rasana incident, so that the culprits are punished without any delay so that an example is set,” said Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh, President Anjuman-e-islamia Bhadarwah.
“It is unfortunate and heart wrenching to see the communal face of Jammu and Kathua Bar, who are leaving no stone unturned to shield the culprits of the inhuman act. Perhaps, this is the darkest period in the history of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.Eight accused have been arrested in the case.
