Jammu: Speaker Legislative Assembly and MLA Gandhi Nagar Constituency, Kavinder Gupta launched the works for construction of Rs 5.88 Crore deep drain project at Digiana in the presence of a large number of locals, here Saturday.

This extensive sanitation project will impact a significant population residing in Nai Basti, Digiana, Akalikour Singh Nagar and adjoining areas and will be instrumental in improving the sanitation in and around these localities.

This long-awaited project is being executed by the UEED and is being targeted for completion by June, 2018.

Speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta said this project will resolve the problem of frequent flooding of drains and reduce the subsequent damage caused to the public and private infrastructure in the area.

Seeking cooperation and support from the residents and traders in the area, the Speaker asked them to work in tandem with UEED and keep a close eye on the quality of works.

He said the Government is committed to develop efficient drainage systems and raise a healthy sanitation infrastructure in the State and this is a move in achieving that goal.

He further informed the locals that a project for upgradation of roads for Digiana has already been approved, the works for which will begin post successful completion of the drainage development work.

Earlier, Kavinder Gupta inaugurated a new Govt Ration Depot at Chatta of Sunjwan Panchayat. This ration depot fulfills a long pending demand of the people of the area who has to face several difficulties earlier due to lack of close access to a ratio depot.

The locals extended their gratitude to the Speaker for taking up this issue and resolving it.

The Speaker urged the locals to take benefit from various welfare schemes launched by state and center government for their benefit.

During his visit to Chatha Pind, Kavinder also visited the Multispecialty medical camp organized to commemorate the World Health Day and interacted with the local patients and doctors. He enquired about the medicare needs of the locality besides enquiring about access and availability of public health care facilities to the locals.
