Rape-n-murder of an eight year old minor girl of Kathua an unpardonable crime should have brought shame to the close relations of the mastermind accused of this dastardly inhuman act but the wife of the mastermind expected to hang her head in shame over the her husband’s alleged involvement in the crime has started fast unto death at a sit in at Jammu the winter capital obviously with the blessings of the communalist forces demanding the transfer of the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The wife of the mastermind herself a mother is not pained over the brutality the culprits have demonstrated in assaulting and killing the minor girl but is worried about the fate of her husband during the investigation. The decision of the wife of the mastermind to sit for fast unto death over the demand for transfer of the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) shows her intents of following the ways for getting her husband acquitted in the case. Had the wife of the mastermind understood the genesis of the crime her husband has command she would offer no resistance to the probe conducted by the Crime Branch of Jammu & Kashmir Police the premier investigative agency. Even if the institutional transparency is to be made an issue the Crime Branch of the Jammu & Kashmir is known for its transparency but the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is infamous for destroying the investigation of two important cases Jammu & Kashmir government handed over to it—One the investigation of 2006 sex scandal which saw many top politician and bureaucrats behind the bars for more than one and the other investigation of the murder of two Shopian women Asiya and Nilofar in the year 2010 . So there is no point for the Jammu & Kashmir government to hand over the investigation of yet another sensitive criminal case concerning rape and murder of a minor girl to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Those showing concern about the transparency in the investigation of the case should not forget that in 2013 the CBI was described, by a justice of the Supreme Court as a “caged parrot” of the government of the day. Above all the domain of the central Bureau of Investigation is to brig moneyed crooks to justice but this premier investigative agency of the country has failed to deliver on this count .In fact there is almost no large disagreement over the general perception about the working of the Central police organisations that they are hopelessly outdated in their staffing pattern, skills and equipment. So better for the people and the government of Jammu & Kashmir to repose faith and trust in the working of its own investigative agency than unnecessarily generating a perception of better transparency in the working of central police organizations.
