Reports quoted SSP Anantnag Altaf Khan as saying that a joint team of police, army’s 19 and CRPF launched a cordon at Brunty Dialgam village during the intervening night of March 31 and April 1 and exchange of fire began after the militants hiding in the area opened fire at the forces.
They said that Rouf Khanday, a resident of Dehruna Hillad Kokernag, who had joined militant ranks in February this year, was killed while his associate Imran Rashid was nabbed alive during the operation.
Reports said that two more gunfights are underway in the neighbouring Shopian district in which three soldiers have been injured.
The gunfights began late Saturday night at Dragad and Kachdoora villages of the district.
Two soldiers iare belueved to have been njured at Kachdora while another was injured at Dragad. All of them isvrepoted to have been evacuated to military hospital.
