Volunteerism must for helping weaker sections of society: MoS Tourism

Jammu/April,8:  Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi Saturday said imbibing volunteerism is must for helping weaker sections of society across the State.

The Minister was speaking during a special function organized by Rotary Club of Jammu (City) in which wheelchairs were handed over to the inmates of Jigar Rehabilitation Institute, Gangyal under its rehabilitation program for especially-abled children.

The Minister, who was chief guest on the occasion, said Government is committed for bringing in synergy between various departments to play vital role in mitigating the sufferings of the specially-abled population of the State. The Minister said she felt touched by the services of Jigar Institute and Rotary. She said the Government is also trying hard to integrate this specially-abled section of society with the mainstream so that specially-abled also cheers up and feel proud to be the part of rising India.

The Minister said parents of these special children also need to encourage their ward and avail the benefits of Government schemes specially meant for them. She said Government is aware that it still lacks in providing friendly infrastructure for specially-abled people and assured that all new infra is planned keeping their needs in consideration. She said Jiger institute is headed by Sandhya Dhar who is herself a specially-abled person and this should encourage others to come forward and help the weaker sections of the society.

Meanwhile Secretary Rotary Club of Jammu (City), Anil Swaraj briefed about the Rotary’s mission to reach the neediest and struggling families of the society. He said the institution run by specially-abled person deserves more attention.

A sufferer herself or himself can lead and raise the voice of these specially- abled children in a better way.  He congratulated Sandhya Dhar and her family on behalf of Rotary for taking such a wonderful and humane initiative to serve the disables of our Jammu region. He assured Rotary’s full support to all such institutions as and when required.

Sandhya Dhar submitted a charter of basic demands for her institution and for welfare of disables of Jammu and Kashmir in general to the Minister. Martanday K P Brigade also presented a wheel chair from their side. Sanjay Bansal thanked all on behalf of Rotary Club  of Jammu City. Senior board members Rtn Robin Mehta,Sanjiv Vaid. Gurdev Sodhi , Sandeep Berry  Arun Ninawat, Roopesh Mason and a large gathering from civil society attended the function.
