Srinagar/March,22: Inspector General of Police Kashmir Range S Pani has said that the five militants killed in an encounter in Halmathpora area of frontier district Kupwara are foreigners and belong to Lashkar e Toiba militant outfit.
Talking to reporters in Kupwara,Pani said “It was a very difficult operation in view of thick vegetation and open area.On the basis of material recovered from the site of the gunfight, it looks the slain militants were associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit” .Pani traveled to Kupwara to lead the wreath-laying ceremony of policemen killed in the two-day gunfight.
It has been already reported that two policemen, three army soldiers and five militants are among the dead during a fierce gunfight which started on Tuesday.
