Washington: Days before a “mini-ministerial” India is holding next week in New Delhi to discuss world trade and related issues, the US has filed a complaint against the country about its export subsidy programmes at the World Trade Organisation, saying they create an “uneven” playing field and harm American exporters.
“These export subsidy programnmes harm American workers by creating an uneven playing field on which they must compete,” US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said on Wednesday.
“USTR will continue to hold our trading partners accountable by vigorously enforcing US rights under our trade agreements and by promoting fair and reciprocal trade through all available tools, including the WTO,” Lighthizer said.
