Kargil: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor Kargil Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan Friday said besides the promotion of traditional and modern sports it is imperative to cherish and endorse the age-old cultural ethos of sincerity, humanism, communal harmony and kind-heartedness which form the core of Kargili culture and traditional identity.

The CEC stated this while addressing people at the final ceremony of Modern Archery Tournament at Askari Archery Stadium Shaqmaki La Yurbalatak here Friday.

Underlining the importance of such tournaments for the promotion of sports activities in the district, Kacho appreciated the organizers for their initiative and said adding that a healthy balance needs to be maintained between archery in both traditional and modern forms so that the former does not get fade away due to the rapid inroads of the latter which has become a craze with the players nowadays.

While highlighting the initiatives of the Hill Council in the promotion of sports activities in the district, the CEC said Kargil has immense potential to emerge as a promising winter sports destination and concrete efforts are afoot to pursue this goal.

Kacho expressed hope that with the operation of air service under Udaan the areas like Kurbathang slopes on the foothills of Naktul, Drass, Sankoo, Panikhar and other parts of the district shall be developed as winter sports centres.

Archers Apati lifted the trophy by defeating Chanchik Archers by 10 goals in the final match. Organized by Sports Promotion Society Kargil 22 teams from different parts of the district participated in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the locals projected a number of demands like steps for educational reforms in the area, construction of playgrounds to give boost to sporting activities, up gradation of Medical Sub Center to Primary Health centre and provision of facilities to people from the Army under Operation Sadhbhavana.

The CEC assured the locals of the fulfillment of all their genuine demands in a phased manner.
