Srinagar: Minister for Education Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari Saturday inaugurated a Division-level Exhibition at Girl’s Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh in which the students from 10 districts of Kashmir participated.
The exhibition was part of the Winter Camp organized by Directorate of School Education, Kashmir for the students of elementary classes of 3rd to 7th. Pratham Education Foundation (J&K) also collaborated in organising the exhibition. Director Education, Kashmir, Dr G.N Itoo, Joint Director Education and incharge Winter Camp, Abid Hussain, Affiliates of State Media Centre, Kashmir, representatives of Pratham Education Foundation and other concerned officials of Education Department were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Altaf Bukhari said over the last two months, around 900 winter camps were established in different zones of Kashmir Division in which more than one lakh students from both government and private schools were benefited from free winter tuitions.
He said the Winter Camp is a fun based learning project in which students are involved in extracurricular activities like model making, drawing, craft designing, drama, skits, presentation skills, group work etc. Around 3600 teachers were actively engaged in the camps.
It was informed that the competition was conducted in three stages. At first stage, students participated at zonal level involving ten winter camps per zone. At second stage, the students competed at District level and Saturday at third stage a total of 70 students from ten districts participated in the finals by exhibiting their talent in model making, drawing, craft etc. The items showcased by the students were based on different themes including Math, Drawing, Craft, English, Social Science and Urdu.
Altaf Bukhari also interacted with the participants and said the Department will continue to involve students in various extracurricular activities where they can showcase their talent. He said more such programs will be organized where larger number of students will get a chance to participate. He also appealed the parents to boost the morale of their children by encouraging them in such activities and by taking active part in the programs organized in schools.
On the occasion, the Minister said the Education Department has charted an academic calendar that will have a schedule for extracurricular activities to be followed by the schools.
