Jammu: The Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Hanjura Monday informed the Upper house that the Government is contemplating to treat every transgender as living under BPL.
The Minister was responding to a calling attention notice by MLC Mohammad Khursheed Aalam in this regard.
“Government will provide all the basic amenities and cover them under the programs available for the BPL category like cheap food-grains, LPG, electricity connections, IAY scheme etc,” he informed.
He also informed the House that the Government will also extend free life and medical insurance cover and a monthly sustenance pension on the pattern of old age pension scheme for all transgender people above the age of 60.
Similarly, in the cases where gender re-assignment surgeries can be undertaken, the entire cost of treatment would be borne by the State Government, he added.
