Developmental landscape of Jammu transforming fast: Dy CM

Jammu/April 5:  The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh Wednesday said sustained efforts are underway to fast pace the development of Jammu city so that it comes up as one of the most developed modern cities of the north India replete with all facilities.

The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a gathering at JDA Club in the Roop Nagar area of the Jammu city.

Minister for Health and Medical Education,  Bali Bhagat was also present on the occasion.

Senior officers of the administration and JDA were also present.

Enumerating the initiatives being undertaken in the housing and urban development in the Jammu city, the Deputy Chief Minister said the developmental works have been fast paced, which would ensure that the problems being faced by the people are mitigated. He said the prestigious Rs 200 crore bus stand project has been fast paced, besides instructions have already been passed to ensure timely completion of two similar projects underway at Super Bazaar and Panchtirthi. This would ease the traffic congestion of Jammu city besides providing parking facility to the people living in the catchment areas, he   said and maintained that the steps are also afoot to develop the historic old Jammu city as a heritage tourism hub with the special focus on preserving its local architectural patterns and other related things.

“We have also directed for timely completion of the work on the prestigious Tawi River Front Development project as it has the potential of coming up as a major tourist attraction in the city. Renovation of the historic Mubarak Mandi project which is the symbol of the rich Dogra culture and history is also underway and regular monitoring is being done on it so that it is completed within the stipulated timeline and boosts the tourism and related activities in Jammu”, said the Deputy Chief Minister. He said Jammu would soon be taken under the smart city initiative of the central government which would further accelerate its development. “Besides this we have also undertaken many initiatives under the AMMRUT in the city,” he said.

Referring to the demands of the locals , the Deputy Chief Minister said instructions have already been passed to the concerned authorities to take up the works in the Roop Nagar colony in different sectors like construction of the link roads, development of the parks, augmentation of the PHE, PDD facilities, so that the locals do not face any inconvenience. He said works to the tune of Rs 2.06 cr are underway in the Roop Nagar colony which includes restoration works, construction of view points, construction of deep drains and premixing the patches in all the sectors.

Minister for health and Medical Education,  Bali Bhagat also spoke on the occasion and highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the government for ensuring holistic development of the Jammu city. He also asked the people to strengthen the resolve of the government by ensuring their participatory role in implementation of various initiatives being undertaken in different sectors.

Later, the Deputy Chief Minister went around the colony and inspected various works being undertaken and directed for strict adherence to the quality. He said strict action would be taken against those found using substandard material.
