Blaze damages poultry farm, tipper; deceased identified as scrap collectors from Delhi

Srinagar, Nov 04: Two persons were killed after a fire engulfed around 80 temporary shelters at Durbal area of Bemina in Srinagar during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the fire broke out around 12:23 am and quickly spread through the temporary shelters, mostly made of tarpaulin and wood.

He said an empty poultry farm and a tipper were also damaged in the blaze.

The official said fire tenders from JVC and Rawalpora fire stations, along with additional reinforcements from Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Headquarters Batamaloo, were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

“By the time the Fire and Emergency Services were informed, the entire area was already engulfed in flames,” the official said, adding that after the fire was brought under control, two bodies were recovered from the debris.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Noor Alam (27), son of Abdul Wahab, a native of Delhi presently residing at Durbal, and Al Ameen (16), son of Mohammad Rafi, also a native of Delhi and presently residing in Kupwara.

Both were working as scrap collectors in the area.

The bodies were handed over to the police after completion of FSL proceedings. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the official said.—(KNO)
