Srinagar : As Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 celebrations concluded at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, the Institute organised friendly cricket and football matches between faculty members and non-teaching staff, highlighting the importance of integrity, teamwork, discipline and fair play in institutional life.

The sporting events witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty and non-faculty members, providing an opportunity for employees to engage in healthy sporting activities while reinforcing the spirit of unity, cooperation and collective responsibility.

The initiative was organised under the guidance of the Institute’s Chief Vigilance Officer and Dean Faculty Welfare, Prof. Manzoor Ahmad Ahangar, as part of the Institute’s broader efforts to create awareness about transparency, accountability and ethical conduct in public institutions.

Dr. Shakeel Waseem from the faculty side and Faisal Irshad Ganai from the non-teaching faculty represented the cricket teams. Similarly, Dr. Manoj Kumar captained the faculty football team, while ASO Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat represented the non-teaching faculty team.

The matches provided a platform for employees from different departments to interact beyond their routine professional engagements, highlighting the importance of teamwork, mutual respect and sportsmanship in building a positive institutional environment.

In his message, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Anurag Misra, emphasised that sporting activities serve as an effective medium for reinforcing values such as fairness, discipline, honesty and respect for rules, which are equally essential to promoting integrity and probity in public life.

He said such initiatives complement conventional awareness programmes by encouraging teamwork, mutual respect and a sense of collective responsibility.

Prof. Misra further said that the institute observed Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 from October 26 to November 1 under the theme ‘Probity for Prosperity’, with a series of activities aimed at sensitising employees and students about ethical practices, transparency and accountability.

Officials from the Administrative Section, including SAS Officer and other Institute functionaries, were also present during the match ceremonies and encouraged the participating teams.
