Jammu | Nov, 02: An Army porter sustained severe injuries on Monday after accidentally stepping on an anti-personnel mine near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district.
Officials said the porter, identified as Raj Kumar of Langar village, inadvertently triggered the mine at 11:30 AM while moving through a forward area in the Nowshera sector.
Kumar lost his right foot in the blast and was immediately evacuated to a nearby military medical facility for treatment.
Sources said landmines deployed along forward LoC positions to deter cross-border infiltration occasionally get dislodged and shifted due to heavy rainfall, creating hazards for personnel and residents in border areas.
