Jammu : Jammu & Kashmir Bank on Friday marked a major milestone in fortifying the region’s financial infrastructure with the inauguration of its modern Currency Chest Building at the Regional Business Centre in Jammu. Commissioned jointly by Reserve Bank of India Regional Director Prabhakar Jha and J&K Bank Managing Director & CEO Amitava Chatterjee, the facility aims to streamline cash distribution networks and ensure dependable banking access across Jammu and surrounding areas. Senior officials from both institutions attended the event, highlighting the facility’s pivotal role in supporting local commerce, households, and cross-bank operations.
The expansion comes as part of a dual strategy to boost physical banking channels alongside ongoing digital service upgrades. Highlighting the initiative’s public impact, Chatterjee explained that investing in robust currency systems directly enhances customer convenience, ensuring that local trade and daily transactions run smoothly alongside digital banking channels. Reinforcing this perspective, Jha noted that currency chests remain vital to public financial health by maintaining a steady flow of clean banknotes and coins while systematically withdrawing worn currency from circulation, provided institutions maintain strict security controls and inter-bank coordination.
