Panchkula, Oct 18 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today said two persons had been arrested and an FIR registered in connection with the alleged attack on a Srinagar-bound passenger bus in Karnal district, assuring Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that the safety of every person visiting Haryana remained a top priority.
Responding to Abdullah’s concerns over the incident, Saini said the police investigation had found that the violence stemmed from a parking dispute between two vehicle drivers.
“Ensuring the safety of every citizen and every person visiting the state is our highest priority,” Saini said in a post on X.
Addressing Abdullah, he said Haryana Police had taken prompt action, registered an FIR and arrested both accused. Further legal proceedings were underway, he added.
The incident occurred late Saturday night near Divine Star Dhaba in the Nilokheri area of Karnal district, where a private bus travelling from Delhi to Srinagar was allegedly attacked with stones and bricks following an altercation involving the occupants of a car.
The attack shattered several windowpanes and damaged the bus. According to Karnal Range Inspector General of Police Ashwin Shenvi, a bus passenger and a dhaba employee sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Police said the altercation began over parking and escalated into violence. An FIR was subsequently registered at Butana police station.
The two suspects were identified in police accounts as Mohit and Sawan. Police also seized the car allegedly involved in the incident.
The bus driver, however, alleged that the attackers had objected to the vehicle’s Jammu and Kashmir registration, used abusive language and threatened those travelling in it. Police maintained that their investigation indicated a parking-related dispute rather than an attack motivated by regional or religious hatred.
Earlier, Abdullah described the incident as unfortunate and urged the Haryana government and police to take action against those responsible to prevent a recurrence.
The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister also said his office had taken up the matter with Haryana authorities and had been assured of prompt action in accordance with the law.
