Jammu : Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Vikas Kundal, Saturday  chaired a meeting to review the progress on the conferment of ownership rights to Displaced Persons (DPs) and West Pakistani Refugees (WPRs) under the relevant Government Orders, including Government Orders No. 100, 101 and 105.

During the  discussion, the Deputy Commissioners of Jammu Division updated the chair on the district-wise progress regarding the receipt, scrutiny, approval, and disposal of claims. They also pointed out issues that need intervention to speed up the processing of cases. Highlighting the importance of timely claim resolutions, the Divisional Commissioner urged all Deputy Commissioners to fast-track the verification of pending cases and enhance coordination among district administrations, SDMs, tehsil offices, and the Custodian Department. He made it clear that eligible beneficiaries shouldn’t have to deal with unnecessary delays in obtaining their rightful ownership claims. The Divisional Commissioner called for a comprehensive review of rejected cases, instructing officers to assess the reasons for rejection based on merit, ensuring that every decision is backed by solid justification. He stressed that eligible claims should be handled fairly and transparently, and he encouraged the involvement of senior revenue officers when necessary to review these cases. He also highlighted the importance of ramping up outreach efforts to make sure all eligible beneficiaries are aware of the scheme and motivated to submit their claims. Deputy Commissioners were tasked with organizing awareness camps, conducting field visits, reaching out to beneficiaries individually, and collaborating with relevant organizations to help facilitate the submission of applications and necessary documents. While reviewing cases sent to the Custodian Department, the Divisional Commissioner instructed the concerned officers to quickly address any observations and deficiencies and to resubmit the cases without delay. He also emphasized the need for additional staffing, including Patwaris and other revenue personnel, wherever necessary to speed up verification and processing. The meeting also touched on procedural matters related to the documentation needed to establish land allotment and possession under the relevant Government Orders. The Divisional Commissioner mentioned that this issue would be addressed further.
