Kargil District Carved Out To Form New Administrative Unit
Leh | October, 16: The Union Territory administration of Ladakh on Friday notified the creation of Sankoo as a new district, establishing its headquarters at Sankoo town.
Officials said the decision fulfills a long-standing demand of local residents for administrative decentralization. According to a notification issued by the Revenue Department, the newly created Sankoo district will comprise four tehsils—Sankoo, GM Pore, TSG, and Taisuru—along with their respective revenue villages. The jurisdiction of the existing Kargil district has been modified accordingly by excluding these areas.
