Revised Schedule To Be Announced Keeping Weather In View

Srinagar | October, 15: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday stated that the schedule for the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in Jammu & Kashmir will be announced in due course of time, keeping regional weather conditions in mind.
Unveiling the SSR schedule for 17 states, poll officials announced that revisions for Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh would be notified separately. “Also, for the three States/UTs namely Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has not been started so far, the schedule for roll revision will be announced in due course of time, keeping in view their weather conditions,” the ECI stated.
The Special Summary Revision is an annual exercise to update electoral rolls, which has not taken place in J&K since the 2024 Assembly elections. Officials said the updated rolls are crucial for conducting municipal elections, as local bodies rely on the ECI’s exercise for urban voters. The five-year terms for municipalities in J&K ended late in 2023, while Panchayat terms expired in January 2024.
