Srinagar| Oct, 12: At least four terrorists, including a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, were killed in a landmine blast while allegedly attempting to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir across the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district on Monday, officials said.
Army sources told Kashmir Horizon that group of four terrorists were attempting to cross into this side through the Nangi Takri area of the Krishna Ghati (KG) sector late Monday afternoon when the members triggered a minefield along the LoC. “The powerful explosion killed all four on the spot, he said.
As per Army, the deceased were identified as Muhammad Ishtiaq, Muhammad Faizan, Muhammad Waqas and Muhammad Asim. Faizan was identified as a top LeT commander. All four were residents of Mandla, Madarpur, in Tehsil Hajira of Poonch district in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK),” it said.
Further details regarding the incident, including the circumstances surrounding the alleged infiltration attempt, were awaited at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, forward areas along the LoC in Poonch and other border districts have extensive security arrangements aimed at preventing infiltration. Minefields form part of the anti-infiltration measures in several stretches, alongside surveillance and deployment of security personnel.
The terrain along the LoC in the region is characterised by steep slopes, dense vegetation and difficult access, making border surveillance particularly challenging. Security forces have maintained heightened vigilance along the LoC to prevent armed groups from crossing into Jammu and Kashmir.
