Srinagar : The Department of Bioresources at the University of Kashmir, in collaboration with the Breast Cancer Patients Benefit Foundation, inaugurated the 3rd J&K International Conference on Breast and Allied Cancers (3rd JK-IBAC-26) today at Gandhi Bhawan. Sponsored by DBT, ANRF, JKST&IC, and J&K Bank, and approved for 12 CME credits, the three-day event brings together leading scientists and clinicians to explore advances in precision oncology, artificial intelligence, and immunotherapy. Keynote addresses by Dr. Sameer Koul and Prof. Rana Pratap Singh set the technical tone for the sessions, discussing the convergence of AI, genetic engineering, and DNA chips in modern oncology, while expert panels outlined critical funding opportunities through national bodies like the DBT, ICMR, and ANRF. Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Prof. Nilofer Khan emphasized that “there should be integrated collaborations within the university and with institutions outside it to take cancer research forward,” adding that “funding opportunities must be increased, especially for cancer research.” The conference continues through October 7 with multidisciplinary sessions, poster presentations, expert panels on the regional cancer burden, and a valedictory address by SKIMS Director Prof. Mohammad Ashraf Ganie.
