Budgam | October, 5: Budgam Police have unearthed a major job and government-subsidy fraud syndicate operating since 2019, involving suspected fraudulent transactions exceeding Rs 2 crore. Two individuals, including a practising advocate, have been arrested in connection with the racket.
Addressing a press conference, SSP Budgam KK Hariprasad said the investigation indicates the network cheated people by falsely promising government jobs, Special Police Officer (SPO) appointments, government subsidies, and foreign university admissions. The arrested accused were identified as Firdous Nabi and Advocate Jehangir Ahmad Dar.
The case came to light following a complaint lodged at Police Station Beerwah on August 17, 2026, alleging that Firdous Nabi took around ₹3 lakh promising an SPO appointment through a forged government order carrying recommendations attributed to the Union Home Secretary. Subsequent raids at the Jammu rented accommodation of Advocate Jehangir Ahmad Dar led to the recovery of fake government orders, stamps, blank bank letterheads, ATM cards, and passports.
Police stated that the accused exploited professional contacts near government offices to build trust before demanding larger sums, occasionally sharing fabricated documents via WhatsApp’s ‘view once’ feature. Authorities are examining potential wider linkages outside Jammu and Kashmir as the investigation progresses.
